Holiday Performance Round-up

Attending a live dance performance is one of our favorite ways to kick off the holiday season! There is something magical about getting a little dressed up, sitting in a beautiful theater, and enjoying festive dance and live music!

For our dancers at Mellado Dance Elite, seeing a live performance can be inspiring! It is a glimpse into just what is possible with hard work and dedication. Even professional dancers started as beginners training in the same way as our dancers!

Today, we have rounded up performances happening in the area. We have also included some links to outstanding videos. Enjoying dance from the comfort of your own home is a great option if seeing a live performance is not feasible this winter. We hope you will include a little dance in your holiday traditions!

  • The Goh Ballet presents The Nutcracker . Another outstanding Nutcracker option for our dance studio families. The Goh Ballet goes above and beyond to make sure families feel comfortable and enjoy the performance. Booster seats are available at the theater to make sure littles don’t miss any of the magic!
  • Arts Umbrella presents Mixed Nuts Looking for something a little less traditional? Mixed Nut might be the best performance for you this holiday season. It is a twist on the classical version of The Nutcracker and features hip hop, contemporary, and ballroom in addition to ballet. Families will have fun taking advantage of a fun photo booth before the performance!
  • Christmas Spectacular with The Rockettes. Unfortunately, the Rockettes will not be traveling to Vancouver this winter. You CAN catch a preview of their Christmas Spectacular in this video! The Rockettes are known for their precision and amazing stage presence. Look for their famous Wooden Toy Soldier piece. The slow, dramatic domino fall to the ground is so simple, but so impressive!
  • Behind the scenes with The Royal Ballet. We love this little peak behind the scenes of the Royal Ballet’s production of the Nutcracker. In the video, you can really take in all the details of the set and costuming. Spectacular! I love hearing the dancers and artistic staff talk about the performance. You can feel their passion and appreciation for the tradition of this ballet.
  • The Joffrey Ballet re-visits tradition. Last year, The Joffrey Ballet in Chicago made big news in the dance world when it announced Christopher Wheeldon was choreographing a brand new production. So fun to see a contemporary choreographer put his mark on a traditional ballet. The snow scene is magical! The whole story takes place at the Chicago’s 1893 World’s Fair. Love this twist!

We encourage all of our dance students at Mellado Dance Elite to set aside time to enjoy dance as an audience member. It is a great reminder of why we work so hard in the studio! After watching a performance, encourage your dancer to talk about what they enjoyed and what steps they recognized. They may be surprised at how much they know! This can be a huge confident boost as they head back into the dance studio.

We are very fortunate to live in an area with a vibrant arts scene and that we have access to SO much wonderful dance through the internet. We hope you will set aside some time this holiday season to enjoy dance with your family! We look forward to hearing all about it from our students in classes!
